Explore the spectacular Khan-khentii mountain range, 100 miles east of Ulaanbaatar, on this horseback adventure. Ride through beautiful landscapes, discovering a wealth of hidden cultural. Observe a variety of wildlife, including hawks, eagles, elk, and deer or even wolf on this wonderful journey. The varied terrain and pace of this ride, allow for interesting and varied days in the saddle.


Spectacular sunsets, star-filled skies and cosy campfires create the perfect ambiance to relax and feel at one with this timeless region.

ITINERARY


DAY 1 - Arrival in Ulaanbaatar
You’ll be greeted by an English speaking guide at the airport and transfer to the hotel. There are plenty of things to explore near your hotel as it is located close to the city centre. We will have dinner as a group and the guide will present the tour briefing.


DAY 2 – Arrive Udeg River
Drive to Udeg river valley. Meet the horsemen and settle in. Then our chief horse guide will provide a riding demonstration and an introduction to the horses. After that we’ll do a loop trail ride around the area to get acquainted with the horses and get used to the riding pace.


DAY 3 – Loop Ride
After breakfast, we’ll saddle up the horses and ride towards the mountains ahead. Today’s ride will take us primarily along the mountain trails at the edge of the forest. We’ll stop for a scenic lunch spot and a one hour “siesta” time off the horses. After lunch, we’ll continue riding coming down the different trails back to the camp.


DAY 4 - Har Zurkhnii Khuh nuur “Blue Lake of Black Heart”
Moving Day! An opportunity to learn how to take down a Mongolian Ger, or “yurt”. Once the camp is packed up, we’ll begin our ride towards the mountains to the east. This day we’ll ride predominantly through the forested mountains with lots of wildlife. From a simple rabbit to Siberian roe deer, red deer and many other animals can be seen. Later in the evening we will come to a camp on the shore of the lake. This is where Chinghis khan was crowned as the leader of “Hamag Mongol” tribe. Stay overnight in the camp.


DAY 5 - Dundaj Valley
Today we explore the area around the lake and continue our ride to the southeast. It is a good terrain to canter for longer distances. Our camp will have settled on the steppe. Upon arrival at the camp, you’re free to hike or explore the area on foot. After dinner, enjoy the campfire the guides will make for you.


DAY 6 - Shurguit River
This day we’ll move the camp and visit a nomadic family. We’ll try to experience and spend as much time as we can with the family helping around their daily work. We’ll help round up their animals and make their dairy products.


DAY 7 - Shurguit River Valley
Today’s ride will take us through a scenic valley with lots of wild flowers and trees along the Elgen River. We’ll follow another big loop trail and return to the camp from the different direction.


DAY 8 - Elgen Gol
Today we ride further to the east in the long distance. As we have already done a few days of riding, we’ll speed up at a faster pace through the vast open grassland. We will eat lunch on the steppe at the edge of the trees. .


DAY 9 Lake Hangal
This morning, we pack up everything and move one more time. It will be a much faster paced ride with frequent canter and gallops if the riders are up for this. In the afternoon, we will reach a beautiful lake, Hangal and camp close to it.


DAY 10 Bereeven Monastery
This day is our last day in the saddle. We ride over the Rocky Mountains to arrive a majestic monastery, Baldan Bereeven. Once we arrive on the site, we explore the area on foot. The area is full of amazing creations curved into the natural rocks. We ride back to the camp in the evening. Our camp crew will have prepared special food for us as for the farewell dinner.


DAY 11 Return to Ulaanbaatar
This morning we’re driving back to Ulaanbaatar. You have free time in the afternoon.  Enjoy traditional folk concert followed by dinner later.

Transfer to the airport.




 


CENTRAL STEPPE RIDE

Discover the vibrant culture, local traditions, captivating communities and every changing vista of Mongolia on this spectacular trail ride, which begins in the south of Ulaanbaatar. Ride across the vast open steppe, through hills and valleys observing a wealth of interesting flora and fauna, from the saddle.

ITINERARY:


DAY 1 Arrival in Ulaanbaatar

DAY 2 - Drive to the Gobi
After breakfast, we drive out of the city and we may do a quick stop for some last minute shopping. Then we continue driving south across the open Mongolian steppe to a spot where a nomadic family lives. We will start our ride from this family and this afternoon we will do brief preliminary ride to get acquainted with the horses and the area.


DAY3 - Horse Trek
After our usual way of eating breakfast, we saddle up the horses and head south-east over the hills. This ride leads us through typical Mongolian grasslands and rolling hills. We return to the same camp for our overnight stay. Enjoy the night with incredible stargaze.


DAY 4 - Horse Trek
Early start today but with a good hot breakfast. Today we will move the camp to another place. The camp will go a shorter distance while we’ll do a loop ride. Gazelles, red foxes, wolves and many other kinds of animals inhabit this area. Meet up with the camp crew later in the afternoon in another fabulous spot.


DAY 5 - Horse Trek
Ride north over the upper hills along the old animal trails. There are very few families in the area and we will pick a family to visit along the trail as a total surprise! Be sure you prepare plenty of questions with which to bombard the family! Older locals are usually very curious and keen to have a conversation.


DAY 6 - Horse Trek
Moving day again. We help take down the camp and head down the trail as the camp crew goes a separate way. As the terrain is quite suitable, we will do lots of canter and galloping. We arrive at the camp late in the afternoon. The camp is in a very nice location and you can go hiking to explore the area. 


DAY 7 - Horse Trek
This ride will take us across the vast open steppe which will give you a full experience of riding in the middle of the Mongolian steppe. Today we visit a family with generations of horse riding traditions.  This is a good chance to learn more about the horse riding culture and horses of Mongolia. After lunch we will once again be on the flat terrain where our canter continues. In the evening, eat dinner outside with a great view and atmosphere.


DAY 8 - Horse Trek
Today is the last time we move the camp and head into the mountainous area of steppe. We will ride along with our camp crew to begin with. You may hop on a camel cart and ride as long as you wish.


DAY 9 - Horse Trek
Today is a shorter and more relaxing day of riding. We do a small loop ride into the bushy flat area ending up in the charming hills. In the evening, our cook will make a special meal, the Mongolian traditional kind of barbeque for the  Farewell dinner. This is the last time to enjoy great stargazing under the clear Mongolian sky on the wide-open Mongolian steppe.


DAY 10 - Return to Ulaanbaatar
Today, we drive straight to UB. In the afternoon, you have an option to ask us to organize a small city tour highlighting a few points of attractions like Gandan Monastery, Zaisan memorial hill, Bogd Khan Winter Palace museum, etc. In the evening, before dinner, we’ll see a traditional music performance by the Tumen Ekh ensemble. 


DAY 11 - Departure
Following breakfast, you will be transferred to the airport for your flight home




SHUUS VALLEY RIDES

Spend 7 days discovering the remote grassland and mountainous wilderness of Mongolia. Travel back in time with Mongolian nomads in this landscape that time forgot. Ride along the Valley of Shuus River which is one of the tributaries of the Mighty Onon River of the famous Chinghis Khan. This trip explores a changing vista of mountains and vast plains, rivers, valleys, forests. This area is renowned for its stunningly beautiful landscapes and is home to a diverse range of Siberian wild animals such as grey wolf, roe deer and red deer.


Small groups allow for personal attention and encourage riders to develop their knowledge, abilities and confidence.

ITINERARY


DAY 1 - Arrive Ulaanbaatar
Arrive in UB and check in to one of the finest hotels in the city.  Attend traditional music concert performed by Tumen ikh Ensemble followed by dinner in a traditional Mongolian restaurant.  During dinner you will be informed briefly about your journey. Spend the night in your hotel.


DAY 2 - Huiten Valley
Drive out of Ulaanbaatar city heading east towards your riding destination (6-7 hours). On the way out there you will discover historical places like giant Chingghis Khan statue and queens and will get to explore the eastern steppe of Mongolia from your vehicle.  We arrive in the Huiten valley late in the afternoon and meet the horsemen and other trip crew.


DAY 3 - Horse Trek
Your first day of riding is spent getting acquainted with your horse and the surrounding area. Natural Mongolian horsemanship and wilderness tips are very high on the agenda. Once you’re accustomed to the area and your horse, we will adjust the riding time based on your how you feel.  This day, we will do a big loop ride and then return to the same campsite.  We will bring a picnic lunch.


DAY 4 - Horse Trek
This morning we will attempt a much more dynamic ride covering a longer distance. Our ride will take us through the rolling hills and the vast open steppe where we can do some high-speed riding. You will enjoy your ride on the green carpet-like pastureland under the big blue sky.  Today, our camp will move and will be pitched in another great looking spot where you will feel like you are absolutely in the middle of nowhere.


DAY 5 - Horse Trek
This day is a full day of relaxation with some interesting and fun activities with the local people. We have an option of visiting a nomadic family nearby and help with their daily chores. We can help milk their cows and move the herd of sheep into the pasture and round up the horses, for example! Or we have an option of exploring the area on foot. We're focused more on the area and local life. As this day is dedicated to give ourselves and horses a break from many days of ride. We can also enjoy ourselves lounging back at the camp, the whole day.


DAY 6 – Moving Day
Pack up the camp and head down the trail. The first part of our ride will take us through similar looking areas as the previous day and the second part of the day we’ll be riding through beautiful rocky hills with colourful flowers. We will stop for a scenic lunch on the way and make it back to camp in time for dinner.


DAY 7 - Horse Trek
Very relaxed ride exploring the area! The surrounding area is great for wildlife and bird watching. You may even encounter a Mongolian grey wolf if you’re an early bird and hike over the mountains!


Day 8 - Horse Trek
Ride north in the direction of higher mountains with larch trees. The ride will take us through the forested slopes and beautiful meadows full of wild flowers. Wildlife here is abundant. Roe and red deer can easily be seen. Then we come back to the camp in time for our farewell dinner. The cook will have prepared traditional Mongolian barbeque (Khorkhog).


Day 9 - Return Ulaanbaatar
Today we drive back to UB.  We will eat picnic lunch on the way. Check in to the hotel and enjoy dinner at the restaurant near your hotel.


Day 10 - Departure
Transfer to the airport.
