“Ben and Corinne run a very special Fazenda with cowboys/girls, cattle and horses in the middle of the Pantanal. With 6 or so guest rooms only, this is small scale ecotourism at its best. At the time we were there at end of June, the tail of the wet season made road access still difficult hence we flew in using an air taxi (small aircraft) landing on a grass airstrip a few 100 metres away from the main lodge where we stayed. Rooms were very nice, adjacent to a large circular terrace under an iconic mango tree with hammocks below it. All this overlooking pasture with various animals roaming over it all the way to the river bank of the Rio Negro at the horizon. In the days that followed we settled into the rhythm of rising at dawn for canoo and fishing trips on the river, exploration and safari´s at dusk, walks and horseback rides. We saw more birds, cayman, ant eaters, blue parrots, otters, wild pigs, capybaras and piranhas in 5 days than in our previous lifetime. Guided by excellent and knowledgeable guides (thanks Lucas, Rodolfo, Bruno, Tom, Claudia!) and well fed by the kitchen crew we had a very relaxing and memorable experience. This place is as close as you can get to an animal paradise with very few people around to spoil it. (via Tripadvisor)”
