We use the following system to help us evaluate your riding skills.
 RIDER EVALUATION CHART:
Beginner:
I have limited experience with horses.
Beginning Rider:
I can walk, trot, canter, gallop (lope or jog in Western language) but can   do so only for limited time periods. I need an easy to control horse and do not want to be involved in rides that require the ability to maintain a trot or canter for extended periods of time.  I can get nervous on the “wrong horse”.
Intermediate:
I can ride a horse at all paces. I prefer a horse that is easy to control and   I normally know, within a few minutes of mounting the horse if I am comfortable on the horse.
Experienced Riders:
I am an experienced confident rider, who can control trail horses and can adjust their paces as required.
How to Prepare for Riding Holiday

Lessons are critical before beginning a riding holiday for anybody who does not get to ride at least twice a month. Even the experienced rider wants to loosen their legs before undertaking 20 to 25 hours of riding over the course of a holiday week. Beginners need the introduction to enjoy any trail ride and we recommend three to 15 lessons depending on your goals.

Lessons for beginners should be half hour lessons until you are ready for more.

Intermediate and experienced riders need at least a one hour lesson to warm up their legs if they do not ride frequently.

Beginners can learn to ride and enjoy trail riding at our Wyoming and Arizona ranches, as well as in Portugal or Italy. Contact us for our recommendations.

Beginners can enjoy trail riding in the above locations, Canada, and California.

Our most challenging ride is in Botswana where the horses may run close and fast over long distances.
