Riding Holidays | Indonesia
Indonesia is the world’s biggest archipelago with over 18,000 islands, including Java, Sumatra, New Guinea, Kalimantan and Sulawesi. It is the most populated country in the world and has the second largest rainforest. With an amazing diversity of scenery from mountains to low lying wide valleys, volcanic lakes and rice fields to beaches and small islands, this is a unique destination for more adventurous horse travellers to visit.
Horse riding holidays in Indonesia are mainly focused on the islands of Java and Bali. Visit Java for a centre based riding vacation from three days up to two weeks in length. Stay at a luxury spa resort near to the stables and have lessons in natural horse care, arena riding tuition for both flatwork and jumping, plus trail rides exploring the surrounding area. Ride through villages seeing the traditional way of life, past rice fields with lovely mountain views in the distance and visit a nearby horse race track. Have non riding activities such as a visit to the Borubudur temple complex and a train ride to a railway museum.
Further south in Bali there is a horse riding holiday offering riding treks across the rice terraces by Kerobokan and along nearby beaches. Professional riding lessons are also offered for people of all ages and abilities. Bali also has several other local riding stables offering shorter hour long trails or half day rides through the countryside. Horse riding is also available on the island of Sulawesi in the form of day trips in the Minahasa highlands.
Indonesia has a warm wet year round climate with a mainly dry season from April to October and a wetter season from November to March. Travel to Indonesia is relatively easy with international airports at Tangerang near Jakarta on Java, Denpasar on Bali and Surabaya in East Java. Or connect on a flight from Singapore or Kuala Lumpur.
