Horse riding in Tanzania centres around safari riding on good quality, well trained horses and there are quite a number of riding establishments in the country. The Singita Grumeti Reserve offers a horseback safari holiday with fantastic game viewing on its vast private concession on the western corridor of the Serengeti. This exceptional safari uses Singita Sasakwa Lodge and Singita Faru Faru Lodge, combining fantastic safari riding on well trained horses with the ultimate in luxury accommodation.

The Serengeti is famous for open grassy plains often teeming with wildlife and excellent safari experiences, including seeing the extraordinary annual wildebeest migration from the Maasai Mara.

There is also another equestrian safari located at a restored old coffee estate in the foot hills of Mount Kilimanjaro offering several different riding holiday itineraries. Choose a centre based stay at the farm with daily trail rides through the coffee plantation viewing wildlife such as vervet monkeys and baboons, journey past local Chagga tribal villages and to the Kikafu River Gorge. Join an eight day Kilimanjaro Big Game Trail exploring the indigenous montane forests of the Kilimanjaro Reserve and track game from horseback on open savannah grasslands.

Maybe ride further south in the Kenyan Great Rift Valley on a luxury tailor made horse riding safari aimed at experienced riders in the wilderness area of northern Maasailand, with rides near to Mount Lengai and Lake Natron. View Big Game from horseback whilst exploring the wonderful African bush. Or join a seven day mobile circular riding safari around the Matissiwi escarpment, to the Ngasurai Plains and onto the lower slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro. This ride is designed for fit, competent riders and you will see an amazing variety of landscapes, wildlife and culture during the safari.

Most of these longer horseback safaris in Tanzania are geared towards competent riders, happy riding at all paces and fit enough for 4-6 hours riding each day. Some lodges do offer shorter half or full day rides for less experienced riders.
