Riding Holidays | Somalia
Set on the horn of Africa next to Ethiopia and Kenya, Somalia has the longest coastline on the African continent. The country has three main regions; main Somalia in the south, Somaliland in the north west and Puntland in the north east. Somalia has an ancient civilisation and historically was an important centre for trade routes, sharing close ties with ancient Egypt. Somalia is famous for its spices, such as cardamom, cinnamon and cumin and has a distinctive and interesting cuisine. In ancient times the country provided many luxuries including frankincense and myrrh.
Somalia has its own breed of horse, known as the Somali Pony. These are small, wiry but strong and surefooted animals, often chestnut or grey in colour. However there are no known horse riding holidays in Somalia. We are always looking for new riding destinations and regularly update the information on this site. If you have information about horse riding in Somalia please do contact us.
Somalia has a hot climate and rocky terrain with highlands, plateaus and open plains. In modern times the country is not a favourable tourist destination due to unrest.
