Riding Holidays | Mali
Mali is a large country set in west Africa between Algeria, Mauritania and Niger. It is a hot mainly dry country, mostly covered by the Sahara Desert, although also has part of the great Niger river and wetter regions in the south. Mali has an ancient culture and is better known internationally for historic towns such as Timbuktu or Djenné and for modern sports like football and basketball than for its horses. However there are a fair number of horses.
Horses in Mali are bred mainly for racing as in the adjoining country of Burkina Faso, although horse riding and horseback trekking is available in Dogon country in Mali. This area of villages around the Bandiagara escarpment is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is a fascinating destination full of rich culture and unique traditions. See ancient rock carved houses, rock paintings and mask making.
We are always looking for new horse riding destinations and regularly update the information on this site. If you have information about other horse riding in Mali please do contact us.
