Indiana is one of the main agricultural States in the USA and is famous for its miles of patchwork farmland. It is also one of the Great Lakes States, similar to Ohio, Michigan and Wisconsin. It has a huge rural industry evolving from the farms. For instance the town of South Bend was once the leading producer of horse drawn wagons, which later developed into automobile production.

The Indiana Dunes National Seashore along Lake Michigan is a big attraction for nature walks and wildlife watching. In the south of the State adventure sports are popular and it is here that we find Indiana’s horseback riding vacations. Stay at an Indiana guest ranch set in beautiful private woodland in Brown County. There are children’s pony rides, adult riding lessons and horseback trail rides along woodland tracks and across open meadows. After a day in the saddle relax back at the ranch enjoying quiet evening views from the hammock on your porch or tasting traditional ranch cuisine. Visit a smaller guest ranch in Indiana for a personal holiday experience, with trail rides tailored to your riding.

There are many equestrian centres in Indiana. Many are happy to provide horse riding lessons and short riding treks for visitors, although most do not have overnight accommodation on site. Often the riding stables are located near to towns with hotels which you can use as your base for your Indiana horse riding holiday. These local stables normally provide both English and western riding, with some specialising in dressage and jumping tuition. Carriage rides are also available at a few locations, while other riding centres are located on bigger horse stud farms, giving the opportunity of guided farm tours.

We are always looking for new riding destinations and regularly update the information on this site. If you have information about horse riding or trail rides in Indiana please do contact us.

Apart from horseback riding Indiana offers outdoor activities such as golf, canoeing and vineyard tours. Visit Squire Boone Caverns to see extraordinary underground features and waterfalls. There are many museums throughout the State, plus Parks and zoos. Indiana is also home to Amish communities, many of which are happy to accept visitors.
