Riding Holidays | Florida
The ‘Sunshine State’ of Florida is the southernmost mainland state in the USA. Located south of Georgia and Alabama the Florida peninsula is famous for its warm climate, white sand beaches, wildlife reserves and theme parks.
Outdoor sporting activities are extremely popular and there are more than 500,000 horses in Florida. Horse riding stables are located throughout the State offering everything from short scenic hacks and longer day trail rides, to riding instruction, classical dressage and jumping lessons. Both English style riding and western riding is common and you will find many different horse breeds as Florida is home to quite a few stud farms. There is the opportunity to ride Warmbloods, Thoroughbreds, Quarter horses and Arabians, Saddlebreds, Tennessee Walkers, Morgans and Paso Finos plus many more!
Ocala in Marion County, is one of the top ‘Horse Capitals of the World’. It is famous for Thoroughbred horse racing, plus H.I.T.S. (Horses in the Sun) dressage and show jumping events at the Florida Horse Park. Florida State also hosts cowboy shows, endurance riding events, polo and eventing competitions. Visit the Ocala area and explore some of the riding trails in the Ocala National Forest.
While there are many equestrian centres in Florida, there are only a few fcilities offering full horse riding holiday packages with on-site accommodation. However many riding stables in Florida are located in popular tourist areas with many hotels available nearby. We are always looking for new riding destinations and regularly update the information on this site. If you have information about horse riding or trail rides in Florida please do contact us.
Why not combine a horse riding holiday in central Florida with a few days viewing wildlife in the Everglades, or relaxing on a beach in the Florida Keys. Maybe visit the Kennedy Space Centre, Universal Studios and Disney World Resort in Orlando. With its warm climate Florida is a year round destination. Winters are dry and cooler, sometimes windy. Summer is hot and can be quite sticky with lots of thunderstorms. Hurricane season is between June and November.
