Riding Holidays | Gabon
Gabon is an incredible and captivating destination in central west Africa. Set on the Atlantic coast bordering Cameroon and the Congo, Gabon is very much an up and coming place for eco-tourism. 11% of the country has been set aside as protected land in the form of national parks, and with 85% of Gabon being tropical rainforest this gives an impressive habitat for preserving African wildlife. Did you known that Gabon has the largest population of forest elephants in Africa? Not to mention some 20,000 lowland gorillas. The country also has miles of grassy savannahs, caves, beaches and coastal lagoons.
While Gabon’s environment is excellent for tropical African wildlife, it is not somewhere where many horses are found. This means there are no known horse riding holidays in Gabon. We are always looking for new riding destinations and regularly update the information on this site. If you have information about horse riding in Gabon please do contact us.
Visiting Gabon gives you a real insight into an untouched wild African wilderness. It is a natural paradise full of natural treasures for adventurous travellers to explore. Outside the cities visitors will do best to join an organised tour due to the lack of infrastructure and the poor condition of rural roads. Many people in Gabon understand French. The main dry season is from May to September with a short dry season in December and January. Maybe visit the coast to help monitor the turtle migration from November to January or watch the famous Gabon surfing hippos!
