Horses and riding have always been such an important part of Irish culture and tradition. There are many horse riding establishments in Ireland, ranging from local riding stables offering children’s lessons and quiet hacks, large competition yards providing schooling in dressage and eventing, to the finest racing stables. Holidaying on horseback is a natural way to explore the Emerald Isle’s beautiful countryside. Choose from week long trail rides staying at a different accommodation each night, to unguided riding trips or centre based stays. With so many riding holidays to choose from it is very important to get advice to help you find the best holiday to suit your needs. You should also check the quality of the horses and standard of riding available.

Castle Leslie in County Monaghan is famous for its excellent riding tuition. With horses suitable for all levels of rider, 21 miles of bridleways to explore plus over 300 cross country jumps, all weather gallop and indoor arena, there is a lot of choice for everyone. Children from the age of seven are accepted for the riding and lessons are tailored to your riding ability. Experienced riders can enjoy fast paced riding and try out the cross country course. The jumps at Castle Leslie were built by Willis Bros who also built the fences at Badminton Horse Trials.

Mount Juliet in Kilkenny also hosts an impressive equestrian centre with a wide range of facilities, including an international size arena, American style barn, cross country course, show jumps and 18 miles of professionally planned bridleways. Again both flatwork and jumping lessons are arranged for all level of rider and hacks are tailored to your experience. Mount Juliet combines horse riding with luxury accommodation. It is one of Europe’s finest sporting estates and famous for hosting international golf tournaments. The estate is also home to the Ballylinch racing stud farm and Kilkenny hunt kennels.
