Belize is a favourite destination in Central America for adventure travel. The country is a haven of tropical jungle full of wildlife. There are forested hills and mountainsides dotted with ancient ruined Mayan temples; warm beaches on the Caribbean Sea coast ideal for snorkeling, diving and deep sea fishing; and cattle ranch and agricultural farmlands in the north plus many cultural attractions. Did you know that Belize has the second longest barrier reef in the world, plus the biggest cave system in Central America? The country has English as its official language, although Spanish is also widely spoken.

Horse riding holidays in Belize are centred mainly in the Cayo District. Visit a jungle lodge on the banks of the Belize River for a western riding vacation. Learn to ride western style using natural horsemanship techniques, have lessons and trail rides with an experienced guide. Explore miles of jungle trails looking out for wildlife such as iguanas, monkeys and birds under the impressive rainforest tree canopy. Experienced riders can have adventurous expeditions deep into the hills, negotiating challenging terrain, crossing rivers and through forests and plantations. Visit caves and waterfalls or orange groves all from the back of a horse.

Stay at one of the eco-lodges near San Ignacio, surrounded by beautiful jungle filled with birds and animals. Combine great riding trails with relaxation, try a massage, an evening float trip on the river or just a siesta out on your deck in a hammock. On horseback visit some of the interesting historical Maya sites, rural villages and Belize Botanic Gardens. Or try an equestrian ranch vacation, ideal for families with children or groups with non riders. Riding can be tailored to your ability with pony rides for children and non riding activities available, such as horse drawn wagon rides, hiking, fishing, cooking workshops or historical visits to see caves or Mayan ruins.

For riders looking for real adventure choose a full 11 night horse riding expedition complete with some nights camping out, learning about the amazing rainforest, lots of riding plus cultural visits to traditional villages, Mayan ruins and ending at the beach. Also includes some non riding activities such as kayaking, snorkeling and sailing.

Belize has a distinct dry season from February to May and a hot rainy season from May to November. Avoid visiting in Hurricane season (June to November).
