Riding Holidays | Mozambique
Mozambique is a beautiful country, an unspoilt quiet haven for tourists with a tropical warm climate, white sandy beaches and the azure waters of the Indian Ocean. Horse riding is becoming popular at coastal resorts, particularly around Vilanculos and on the Bazaruto Archipelago. Mozambique Horse Safari offers horse riding holidays with trail rides along the Vilanculos Coast and on Benguerra Island. Join a Tropical Sands trail ride on sandy beaches, along rugged cliffs, through uninhabited bush and past countless inland lakes. Maybe even swim your horse in the calm waters of the Indian Ocean.
Vilanculos town itself is an up and coming tourist centre, located on the coast of the Mozambique mainland, about 750 km north of Maputo, the country's capital city. It is still a rural fishing village and you will likely see local fishermen mending nets or fishing in traditional wooden dhows just offshore. Snorkelling and diving are popular in this area too, with extensive coral reefs in the Bazaruto Archipelago area offering fantastic dive sites.
Horse riding is also offered to guests staying at Indigo Bay Island Resort on Bazaruto Island and at Aquatico Ocean Lodge near Tofo. Both lodges offer daily rides along nearby beaches. Exploring on horseback is a fantastic way to visit a country such as Mozambique, fitting in well with the country’s quiet relaxed culture.
Inland from the coast Mozambique’s landscape consists of lowland plateaux and hills, extending to highlands and mountains in the west and south. There are no known riding centres in these areas.
