South CarolinaRiding Holidays | South Carolina

Set between North Carolina, Georgia and Tennessee, South Carolina is known for its peach farms, warm climate, the ‘Grand Strand’ beach resorts and the State’s history of Thoroughbred racing. Visit ‘Thoroughbred Country’ around Aiken in west South Carolina to see horse racing, Thoroughbred breeding and training facilities, and the Thoroughbred racing hall of fame museum at Hopelands. Aiken is famous for its ‘Triple Crown events - the Aiken Trails and the Steeplechase at Aiken training track, and the High Goal polo game at Aiken polo club.

Apart from Thoroughbreds there are many types of horses and equine sports throughout South Carolina. Horse breed shows are widely held, as are western riding events, plus dressage and polo competitions. Local equestrian centres offer horse riding lessons and short treks to visitors and there are a few western style day trail riding centres, particularly on the edge of the Blue Ridge Mountains in the far north of South Carolina. However there are no known horse riding holidays in South Carolina.

We are always looking for new riding destinations and regularly update the information on this site. If you have information about horse riding or trail rides in South Carolina please do contact us.

South Carolina has a lot to offer outdoor enthusiasts. The inland black water rivers provide great rafting and canoeing opportunities, the Blue Mountains have many hiking and mountain biking trails and are home to Upper Whitewater Falls, the tallest waterfall in the eastern USA. Explore the coastal wetland areas with alligator tours and bird watching, or relax on the beaches and try water sports. South Carolina has a warm humid climate and so the best time to visit is Spring or Autumn.
