Riding Holidays | Oregon
Western ranches abound throughout Oregon, particularly resort ranches offering a mix of outdoor activities including horseback riding, fishing and hiking, and smaller Dude ranches giving guests the feel of a real cowboy holiday, with roping lessons, western games from horseback and sometimes cattle round-ups. A few ranches in Oregon specialise in teaching natural horsemanship techniques and these tend to be family run personal holidays based at a working horse ranch.
While the majority of horse riding holidays in Oregon are at western ranches, coastal horse riding vacations are also available offering beach riding, and other stables provide English riding tuition including flatwork and jumping lessons.
Oregon is situated south of Washington State and north of California. Oregon is famous for its warm temperate climate and wilderness areas of outstanding natural beauty. The State is home to many unique geological features, including the deepest lake and deepest river gorge in the USA with Crater Lake and Hells Canyon; and Sea Lion Caves, one of the largest sea caves in the world. Mount Hood and Smith Rock are well known hiking and climbing areas. The landscape varies from deserted coastal beaches, through far reaching forests to barren desert making Oregon an excellent destination for an outdoor holiday adventure.
Combining a weeks ranch vacation in Oregon with a weeks sightseeing around the State makes a really lovely holiday. Explore part of the famous Oregon trail, one of the original transcontinental trading routes in the USA. Go rock climbing and white water rafting or visit a vineyard in the Hood River Valley, or just relax at a seafood restaurant in one of Oregon’s many seaside villages.
