Riding Holidays | Mississippi
Mississippi is of course famous for the river, which marks the western boundary of the State against Louisiana and Arkansas. It is also known as the ‘Magnolia State’ in reference to the many beautiful Magnolia trees that grow here. Much of the State is low-lying wetland and agricultural land filled with cotton and soya bean farms.
In amongst the Mississippi farmland lie a number of equestrian facilities. Horse riding is quite popular in Mississippi with local stables providing English and Western style riding lessons in an arena and short hacks through the countryside, particularly in DeSoto County. There are also larger competitive yards and specialist training centres for specific horse breeds like Paso Finos, Tennessee Walkers and Arabians. Endurance riding and western leisure riding are also possible. However there are no known horse riding holidays in Mississippi or western ranch vacations.
We are always looking for new riding destinations and regularly update the information on this site. If you have information about horse riding or trail rides in Mississippi please do contact us.
The Hancock County Equine and Livestock Arena hosts regular equestrian events, including rodeos, western games like barrel racing and team roping competitions, plus livestock shows and food festivals.
While in Mississippi for a horse riding holiday it is worth taking time to explore some of the sights along the Mississippi river and coast. Learn about the Southern heritage at one of the museums or join an eco-river tour looking out for rare cranes and other birds. Go shrimping or try water sports. Maybe eat the local delicacy of fried catfish in one of Mississippi’s seafood restaurants. Travel to Tupelo in the north to visit Elvis Presley’s birthplace.
