Louisiana has a fabulous multicultural atmosphere, stunning scenery and a wealth of wildlife to discover. It is located in the far south on the shores of the Gulf of Mexico, next to Texas, Arkansas and Mississippi. While well known for its jazz music, fantastic cuisine and the Mississippi swamps, away from the river there are many upland regions offering great Louisiana horseback riding opportunities.

You will find many horse breeds in Louisiana, from Quarter Horses and Tennessee Walkers, to Thoroughbreds, Arabs and even Miniatures. There is horse racing with racetracks at the Louisiana Downs and Delta Downs pulling big crowds. Dressage and eventing are popular and there is a polo club in New Orleans.

Travel near to Lake Claiborne in northern Louisiana for a western ranch vacation. Explore private ranch lands on horseback guided by experienced wranglers. All levels of rider are catered for with easy trails for beginners across cattle pastures and challenging paths through rugged hills and woodland for more experienced riders. Regular day riding stables are found throughout Louisiana offering riding lessons and hacks through pretty countryside. There are also bigger competition yards with cross country courses, western trekking centres, carriage driving centres and stud farms.

We are always looking for new riding destinations and regularly update the information on this site. If you have information about horse riding or trail rides in Louisiana please do contact us.

No visit to Louisiana is complete without a trip to New Orleans. There has been much re-development after the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina in August 2005 and the city is very much back to its former self. See the famous Mardi Gras parade in March, hear jazz and blues rhythms, enjoy a steamboat trip on the Mississippi river, try a horse drawn carriage ride through the French Quarter and taste Cajun cuisine at one of the many restaurants.

Louisiana was originally named after King Louis XIV of France and it has many French, Spanish and African influences seen in the architecture and everyday culture. Louisiana experienced long hot humid summers and short winters. The best time to visit is early Spring and Autumn outside the summer storm season.
