The Republic of Congo is a medium sized country in central west Africa. Not to be mistaken for its bigger neighbour, the D. R. Congo, the Republic of Congo is a much more stable country and well known for its impressive rainforest which is home to an astonishing amount of wildlife. Did you know the rainforest of the Congo River Basin has over 80% of the world’s wild primates? Animals range from chimpanzees and gorillas to forest elephant, birds and reptiles plus there are many endemic plant species.

Due to the dense tropical environment the Congo does not have many horses and there are no known horse riding holidays in the Congo. Visitors to the Congo are normally looking for adventurous wildlife tours through the rainforest at Odzala National Park, rafting the rapids on the Congo River or heading to the beaches of the Atlantic coast. The capital Brazzaville has a very French feel and is in more open hilly country. The best time to visit Brazzaville is between May and September. For the northern rainforest it is December to February. Travellers are advised to be careful and avoid the border regions with the D. R. Congo.
