Algeria is in north Africa and has a northern Mediterranean coastline. It borders a number of countries including Morroco, Tunisia and Niger. It is the second biggest country in Africa and the largest on the Mediterranean Sea. There are no known horse riding holidays in Algeria, although horses are fairly common and have been important throughout the county’s history. Algeria is one of the main centres for Barb horse breeding. Arabian horses are also popular.
Away from the coast Algeria is a hilly country and includes part of the Atlas Mountain range. Between the coast and the mountains are fertile valleys with lots of farmland. In the south is the Sahara Desert. French language is generally understood, particularly in the cities.
The government of Algeria is understood to be actively encouraging tourism development and equestrian vacations would be a wonderful way to explore the country. They have even included some riding in this promo video:
We are always looking for new riding destinations and regularly update the information on this site. If you have information about horse riding or trail rides in Algeria please do contact us.
