ITINERARY
Day1:

Guests are greeted at Johannesburg International Airport and transported to Bokpoort Holiday Farm, which is about three hours to the south. Bokpoort Holiday Farms has been in the Roos family for five generations. The Farm is situated amongst the sweeping skies and soaring Maluti Mountains. Upon arrival, guests are welcomed with cool refreshments and snacks, and spend a relaxed afternoon meeting all the staff, family and pets! The evening meal will be served in true African-style around the camp fire.

Day2:

Following an early morning breakfast, we set off to the Basotho Cultural Village for a guided tour. This is indeed a cultural experience! Guests learn about the Basotho peoples' heritage, their traditions, living conditions and cultural evolution since the 16 th century. We taste the traditional Sotho beer and listen to their unique music. Lunch is served at a local restaurant in the village, which also has a curio market selling woven articles, handmade clay pots and figurines. We head back through the Golden Gate National Park. This area is renowned for its Golden Sandstone Cliffs and spectacular scenery. We stop at the Glen Reenen rest camp before beginning an afternoon hike. The routes vary from easy to challenging. Back at Bokpoort, each guest gets to cook his/her own dinner in a traditional black pot around the fire pit.

Day3:

Sethuthuthu , which means “motorbike” in the Sesotho language, is the means of transport for an early morning quad bike ride on ATV's – all terrain vehicles. This brings you very close to nature, and your attention will be drawn to the many indigenous plants, rock formations and bird life that abound in this area. We stop at Kgotla - the “place of gathering” and enjoy breakfast and coffee prepared and packed by Bokpoort's staff. Alternatively, you might choose to go river rafting (October – March). Options include a challenging rapids ride or a relaxing bird watching cruise down the river. After the quad ride/river rafting, guests enjoy a game drive by vehicle, which provides ample opportunity to photograph animals such as zebra, springbuck, waterbuck, eland, reedbuck, etc. We head into the village of Clarens. Clarens is a true artists' village, with curio shops and galleries of all sorts around every corner. This village, with its unique character, will provide you with an enjoyable opportunity to find those treasured souvenirs and trinkets to take back for friends. Tonight's meal features steak that guests cook on a solid slab of volcanic rock.

Day4:

After brunch, we set off for a hike and exploring caves with bushman paintings, including a visit to the Fertility Caves, one of the largest caves in the Southern Hemisphere. If hiking to the caves is not your ‘cup of tea”, you can choose to enjoy a relaxing game viewing ride on horseback, or opt for an exhilarating ride with long gallops over the grassy plains. T he afternoon is spent on a floating restaurant (complete with cigar bar!) on a local river. There are over 200 antelope to be seen and the bird watching is great.

Day5:

The last morning at Bokpoort offers a variety of activities to choose from and can be spent horseback riding, river rafting, repelling down cliffs, trap shooting, trout fishing, hiking or mountain biking. After lunch we get packed and drive to Camorhi Game Ranch. Camorhi is “the home of the white lion”, where you can usually see baby lions – from one month to year old cubs - around the camp. Camorhi hosts four of the “Big Five” animals and we go on a game drive to view these and other species including giraffe, blue wildebeest, zebra, and impala. Guests spend the night either in Pretoria or in the Hartebeespoort Dam area.

Day6:

Today begins with a visit to the Pilanesberg National Park, the fourth largest national park in Southern Africa, which covers an area of 58,000 hectares. I is less than a two hour drive from all the major centers in the Gauteng Province. Encircling this unique area are four rings of hills; a geologically fascinating alkaline complex produced by volcanic action some 1.2 billion years ago. The Park boasts healthy populations of Africa's Big Five -- lion, leopard, black and white rhino, elephant and buffalo. There is a wide variety of both rare and common species - nocturnal brown hyena, the fleet-footed cheetah, the majestic sable, as well as giraffe, springbok, zebra, hippo and crocodile – to name just a few. Bird-watching is excellent with over 360 species recorded.

Day7:

The final day of your tour features again offers several options -- an early morning game drive through the Park, or a visit to the Hartebeespoort open-air African Craft Market, or the Sun City Valley of the Waves park and casino, or the Elephant Sanctuary where you can walk with the Ellies! You can even go for an elephant back ride! After lunch, guests depart for Johannesburg International Airport for those with evening flights. Accommodation can be arranged for guests who choose to depart the next day (extra).
